London & Southern Counties
1st SECTION CHAMPIONS 2024

About Horsham Borough Band

Horsham Borough Band was formed in 1900 as the Horsham Recreation Silver Band and has been providing the sound of brass in the town for 120 years.

We are a brass band that plays music to a high standard for the local community and we are proud to represent Horsham in both local and national events. We encourage aspiring local musicians of all ages and backgrounds to expand their musical skills with the help of the band, its instruments and its talented musicians.

We are self-funding, earning revenue through player subscriptions (each player pays £20 per month to be a member of the Band, students and those less able to pay are allowed to play for free) and engagement fees for concerts in and around the Horsham area. We have an extensive repertoire of over 1,500 pieces of music gained since the band was formed in 1900.

We regularly take part in both local and national competitions, which enable us to put Horsham on the brass banding map around the country. In 2019 we travelled to Skegness, Oxford and Bournemouth as competitors. From 2020 we returned to the First Section and we are proud to be London & Southern Counties 1st Section Champions as of March 2024!

We are always looking for experienced players to join us. We can offer good-quality instruments, and there is also support for players returning to brass music. We rehearse on Tuesday and Friday evenings from 8.15pm-10.15pm at Cranleigh Bandroom, Village Way, Cranleigh GU6 8AF.

Our MD: Will WIlkins

Originally from Northamptonshire, Will started playing euphonium at secondary school. He was part of the successful Northamptonshire County Youth Brass Band, with whom he represented England at the 2014 European Youth Brass Band Championships, placing 3rd. He was also a member of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain for two years.

Will studied music at the University of Southampton, specializing in euphonium and conducting. During his time in Southampton, he conducted the university’s brass band, wind orchestra, symphony orchestra and chamber orchestra, becoming the first student in the university’s history to conduct all four ensembles. He received an ABRSM Diploma in the euphonium in 2018.

Will was appointed musical director of Horsham Borough Band in 2022, and enjoys working with the band as part of his busy musical schedule. He is also the musical director of the Aveley and Newham Band, and plays solo euphonium with Bournemouth Concert Brass. He fits this around his day job working for children's services in Brighton and Hove.
